Grupo Tortuguero de las Californias

We are a network for sea turtle conservation and the individuals and communities behind it are its essence. The work and conviction of fishermen, students, teachers, housewives, scientists, civil society organizations and government institutions keep this network active.

Our Programs

The 7 species of sea turtles are in a vulnerable or endangered state. Through our programs we seek to generate information and create awareness that contributes to the preservation of these species and their environment.

Our research is focused on understanding the status and biology of sea turtles. This knowledge makes it possible to plan and adopt appropriate measures for the conservation of the species. All the information is then analyzed by scientists and published and/or presented in exchange forums.

  • Monitoring in the water: Monitoring sea turtles in the water is a method of obtaining information about a population and its changes, distribution, health, genetics, characteristics, as well as to identify the particularities of their habitats.
  • Beach Monitoring: Monitoring beaches allows us to work on the conservation of turtles from the moment they lay their eggs with the Nest Protection Program until they die with the study of stranding zones.
  • Environmental Education: Chapuzón Submarino is our environmental awareness program, addressing the biology and conservation of sea turtles and the environment.
